Learn Ski Racing in SW England
Updated 29th May 2015
Western Counties Ski Club (WCSC) is a small friendly ski club based at the Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre. We offer skiers the opportunity to develop their own personal skills and techniques with good coaching using the exciting and enjoyable medium of race training. We have a very friendly and supportive approach to training and you do not need to aspire to become a World Cup ski racer, although we can help you on the way to achieving this goal if you wish! Our skiers range in ability from novices to a few who are successfully competing nationally and ages range from primary school children up to pensioners. So it is relatively easy to fit in and enjoy yourself while you learn.
Weekly training takes place on Monday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm throughout the year with the exception of Bank Holidays. In addition, each summer the club runs a training camp using the wonderful facilities available at the huge indoor snow slope at Landgraaf in the Netherlands.
WCSC enters a team for the Gloucester Summer Race League Series each summer. This series of six friendly races is aimed at the less serious racer. Racers above a certain standard are excluded. In the morning there are slalom races against the clock for various age groups and in the afternoon they are followed up by dual slalom races. WCSC have won the SRL 4 times in the last 5 years.
The club was represented in the South West Ski Association regional team in 2014 and some members are racing very successfully nationally.
